Years ago it would have been filled with people during the day, their shouts ringing out as they bought and sold food, clothing, and all manner of trinkets. But that was before a massive migration to the United States -- including to the Washington area -- emptied the town of much of its working-age inhabitants, leaving behind a far more silent village of children, grandparents, and stray dogs.
NOTE: This child is not referenced in the story.
