na/lima andrea bruce/twp Staff Sgt. Steve Hooper and his girlfriend, Heather Baker, watch TV in their apartment. He says , he does not discuss combat with her. I dont tell her a thing. I don't want her knowing a lot of things I did over there, said Hooper, a quietly spoken Bronze Star winner who talks often with fellow Marines. Some people are proud of it. Some people wonder if God will forgive them for what they did. Iraq changed the men of Lima Company, 3rd Battalion, 25th Marines, more than they could have imagined, guiding and afflicting them in ways many are struggling to understand. A reserve unit that expected light duty boredom did not seem out of the question -- Lima took more casualties than any U.S. company in Iraq, losing 23 Marines killed in action. The survivors made it home from the war, but they brought the war with them.
